This is the third time that the MHS ASTRA club has won first place in a worldwide competition of ASTRA clubs. This year's winning project achievements included school, local, national, and international service projects which were funded primarily by ASTRA's Flamingo Flocking fundraiser.

Projects included sending $1000 to Uganda in support of Invisible Children's Child Soldier rehabilitation program, $200 to help the Enterprise, Alabama high school ASTRA Club (devastated by a tornado), and $225 to purchase and wrap Christmas gifts for Montrose Tandem Family children. Additionally, Club members participated in the Bosom Buddy Walk/Run, served as models for the annual senior girl's tea, served dinner to Voices for Children court advocates, and volunteered at the Hospice banquet.

ASTRA is a high school club, sponsored by Altrusa, that is dedicated to community service and building leadership qualities in its members. ASTRA Clubs exist worldwide and submit service club project achievements annually which are judged on their merits by an outside panel of professionals.

ASTRA stands for Ability, Service, Training, Responsibility, and Achievement.
