On October 27, Make a Difference Day, Altrusa International of Montrose donated items to the Adult Basic Education Program. Primarily funded by a small Federal grant and dependent upon community donations, basic needs are great.

Dictionaries, books and supplies were gathered and delivered to Norma McBryde, Program Director. Altrusa’s signature Buddy Bags were also delivered to Norma for the children accompanying parents.

The Adult Basic Education Program has been serving the community since 1971 and has expanded to Olathe. Altrusa International of Montrose has been supporting the program for many years. Through this program, literacy education is provided year round to approximately 200 adults per year and provides childcare services for 30-40 children while parents are attending class.

Since July 2001, literacy has been the charitable focus of Altrusa International.
